Finding Employees
Finding capable people to work for you is critical
to the success of your business. Some of the resources available include:
- The New
York State Department of Labor is New York's primary source for
information on locating, hiring and retaining a high-quality workforce.
The Department's web site allows businesses to post and search resumes,
gain access to extensive information and services for employers, review
labor market statistics, get prevailing wage information and find
out about apprenticeship training programs. The Department also hosts
on-line jobs listing with access to regional and national employment
opportunities.
- The
State Education Department's Office of Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with
Disabilities (VESID) provides valuable services to small businesses. The Department
creates access to a pool of job-ready workers. The Department also
provides technical assistance on the successful employment of workers
with disabilities and can identify sources of financial support available
through tax credits and subsidies for training workers. Contact VESID
by telephone at 1-800-222-JOBS.
- HighTechNY
is an online listing of the latest high-tech jobs available in New
York State. The web site is a partnership between Empire State Development
and the New York State Department of Labor, trade associations and
regional business groups.
- The U.S. Department
of Labor is charged with preparing the American workforce for
new and better jobs, and ensuring the adequacy of America's workplaces.
It is responsible for the administration and enforcement of over 180
federal statutes. These legislative mandates and the regulations produced
to implement them cover a wide variety of workplace activities including
protecting workers' wages, health and safety, employment and pension
rights; promoting equal employment opportunity; administering job
training, unemployment insurance and workers' compensation programs;
strengthening free collective bargaining and collecting, analyzing
and publishing labor and economic statistics.
- Career One
Stop Identify job-ready workers with the right skills. This site
is developed and maintained by the US Department of Labor in
partnership with state governments.
- The US Department of Labor's eLaws
Advisors helps you understand your rights and responsibilities
under the employment laws and regulations administered by the U.S.
Department of Labor (DOL). Each Advisor imitates the interaction you
might have with a DOL employment law expert--it asks questions and
provides answers based on your responses.
